Parenting workshops

In addition to my academic work, I run one day parenting workshops at Cambridge University’s Institute of Continuing Education. I also offer lunchtime workshops to organisations on these topics and many others:

  • Tantrum taming
  • Breast versus bottle – the facts
  • Weaning
  • Supporting a child’s journey in learning to talk
  • Getting to grips with screen time
  • Managing sibling fights and conflict
  • Easing separation and promoting the formation of multiple attachments
  • Raising a bilingual family

Additionally, I work one to one with parents whose children are experiencing difficulties around friendship, anxiety, speech and language development, learning to read, parental separation and divorce, depression, bereavement, attention and hyperactivity.

Praise for past parenting workshops:

As a mother and professional I found Sarah’s workshop to be filled with useful information and practical strategies to help with early parenting dilemmas. Sarah presents in a way that is easy to follow, taking science and child behaviour and turning it into sensible  parenting strategies, which are practical and effective. Her book Little Kids Big Dilemma, goes with the course and is a great resource. A must-read!

I attended Dr Sarah Kuppen’s Child Development – A Guide to Parenting course wanting to experience a researcher’s view on child development. What I received was more than I anticipated. Dr Kuppen’s presentation was very well organised and very user-friendly. Her examples were not just based on research but on her personal experience as a parent.  She immediately engaged the group and addressed our challenges and concerns as parents and allowed experienced professionals like myself to contribute to the dialogue and offer our experience into the discussion. This inclusive approach led to an open and authentic space for participants to feel relaxed and as if we had known each other for longer than just 1-day. I would recommend Dr Kuppen’s course to parents and professionals who are interested in learning more about child development. Particularly, I would recommend her course to any mothers or fathers out there who feel overwhelmed by the daily demands of being a parent. You will learn from Dr Kuppen’s own experience ways you can cope better with the stress of parenting.

Despite my best intentions, and a thoughtfully stacked bookshelf of recommended Parenting books, most pages remain unturned, unless in a mild crisis moment of “Oh dear, how do I deal with that ?!” Taking a day out to take part in the workshop from Sarah was great – it seemed like a ‘big ask’ when I booked it 3mths beforehand but I was so pleased I did. In the immersive environment I was able to fully focus and concentrate and came away feeling confident and knowledgable to deal with the next part of my parenting journey. Also the insights and sharing from the other Mums in the group was so supportive – a great mix of women there simply to learn a little bit more. The content from Sarah lived up to expectations – her knowledge and insights from studies mixed with her ‘real life element’ as a mother herself. I would definitely recommend this and would certainly attend any future courses Sarah runs !
